Acquisition
Forms part of the Claims Conference International Holocaust Documentation Archive at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. This archive consists of documentation whose reproduction and/or acquisition was made possible with funding from the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany
Source of acquisition is the Regional State Archives in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, records obtained through the cooperative project with the Yad Vashem, Israel. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum received the collection via the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum International Archival Programs Division in 2016 and accretion in 2017.
Scope and Content
Records of the Jewish Community in Plovdiv, Bulgaria: files on inspections of the Plovdiv district school; correspondence with the Police Directorate and rural municipal governments in the county; mutual and voluntary exodus of Greeks, Turks, Vlachs and Jews, deserters in the Romanian and Turkish army; annual and monthly reports on the status and activities of the administrative office at the Regional Police Department, Plovdiv in 1941-1944; files of the Jewish companies in Plovdiv; commercial cases for bankruptcy; confidential correspondence with the Council of Ministers-sector "Civil and economic mobolizatsiya" on implementing the production plan and settle the mobilization of workers; lists and reports of Greek, Turkish and other immigrants; applications, certificates and passports; correspondence with the Commissariat for the Jewish Affairs (KEV-Komisarstvo za Evreiskite Vaprosi) and others on transferring and safekeeping of valuables at BNB Plovdiv; registers of birth, marriages, deaths, and batch book, payrolls, the family register, and photographs.

Arranged in seven series: 1. Plovdiv district school inspection: Correspondence with the Ministry of Education, and appointments of teachers; 2. Contracts and inventories of expropriated Jewish property; 3. Plovdiv Court: Commercial cases for bankruptcy; 4. Company files for factory workers and factory products; 5. Police records; 6. Correspondence of the Plovdiv Municipality with Central Jewish Consistory - Sofia City People's Council (the Town National Council), Plovdiv and others; 7. Jewish community correspondence, register of birth, marriages, deaths, and batch book, payrolls, the family register, and photographs.
