Biographical History
The Katz Ehrenthal Collection is a collection of more than 900 objects depicting Jews and antisemitic and anti-Jewish propaganda from the medieval to the modern era, in Europe, Russia, and the United States. The collection was amassed by Peter Ehrenthal, a Romanian Holocaust survivor, to document the pervasive history of anti-Jewish hatred in Western art, politics and popular culture. It includes crude folk art as well as pieces created by Europe's finest craftsmen, prints and periodical illustrations, posters, paintings, decorative art, and toys and everyday household items decorated with depictions of stereotypical Jewish figures.

The postcard was donated to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in 2016 by the Katz Family.

Scope and Content
Postcard of a Jewish street peddler with a dog with a pot tied to its tail with artwork by Tom Browne (1870-1910.) Browne was a popular comic artist in late Victorian and Edwardian London, whose cartoons were published in Punch, Tatler, and other periodicals. He was a founding member of the London Sketch Club, had work in the Royal Academy, owned a lithography firm, and copyrighted many designs. Jewish street peddlers and market stall vendors were a common sight on London streets through the 19th and early 20th century. Picturesque scenes of them displaying their wares were a popular subject for inexpensive art forms, such as prints and postcards. Physical Characteristics and Technical Requirements
Postcard with a color illustration of an old peddler selling trinkets outdoors, with his right foot on the curb and left foot in the street, turned to the left. He has unkempt white hair, mustache, and beard and a long nose and beady eyes, stereotypical Jewish features. He wears a worn green/gray visored cap and overcoat, yellow vest, blue shirt, black tie, and light brown trousers. In his extended right hand he holds narrow boxes, possibly cigarettes, and shoelaces, and the tray hanging from his neck holds button cards. Behind him on the right sits a small brown spotted dog with a metal pot tied to its tail, head turned toward the viewer. The artist's's name, Tom B. , is printed in the bottom left. The peddler and dog are on a yellow shaded area on the left; the remaining area of the card is white. The back has English text, a vertical center line separating address and message sections, and a square printed Halfpenny Stamp printed in the upper right.
