Source of acquisition is the Uniwersytet Warszawski. The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives received the digitized collection via the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum International Archival Programs Division in Feb.2015, accretions in Oct. 2016, Feb. 2017, Dec. 2017, Sept. 2018, and Feb. 2020. This is ongoing project. This is a cooperative project based on the agreement between USHMM and Yad Vashem, Israel.
Scope and Content
Students’ personal files related to the admission to studies (application, resume, matura (A level) certificate, other documents, e.g. an excerpt of a population book, birth certificate), a course of studies (applications, a student’s book, marks, official letters, documents concerning granted scholarship, reminders of payment), as well as the completion of studies (diplomas, certificates). Most of the files contain photos for identity or membership documents of the given person. Personal files contain personal data of a given individual, most of the Jewish students of the Warsaw University perished during the Holocaust.
System of Arrangement
Records are arranged as a single series: Students’ personal files, 1925-1939. Chronological order by the date of admission into university. The list of students database in Excel contains following information: A Last name (surname) B First name C Second (middle) name D Gender/sex: male (M), female (F) E Birth date F Place of birth G Religious denomination (religion) [if mentioned in the documents] H Student’s book number I Faculty or institute of Warsaw University J date of admission (to the faculty or institute) K Date of graduation L Location of student’s file in the Archive of the Warsaw University M Number of the examination commission N Call number of student’s file O Faculty or institute name P Date of BA or BSc. Q Number of baccalaureate R Topic of the BA/BSc thesis S BA/BSc thesis in the file T Thesis supervisor
