United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Collection, Gift of Phyllis Kaufman

Phyllis Kaufman, the daughter of Eugene and Rose Lowell, donated this collection to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum on Mar. 6, 2006.

Scope and Content

Consists of documents and correspondence related to the attempts of Eugene Straus Lowenstein (later Lowell) and his wife Rosel (Rose) Herz Lowenstein to assist their family members in Europe to emigrate to the United States. Includes extensive correspondence from family members in Germany and family imprisoned in Gurs as well as between the Lowensteins and various aid societies in the United States. Also includes photographs and documents from Eugene Lowenstein's experiences in a German air squadron during World War I, during which he served with the Red Baron.
