Acquisition

Thea Lange Spiegel donated her collection to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives on Sept. 10, 2006.

Scope and Content

Consists of materials related to the experiences of Thea Lange Spiegel, originally of Danzig, Germany (Gdansk, Poland). Includes wartime letters from Thea, who went to England in 1939 on a Kindertransport, to her mother and sisters, who were interned in Mauritius after a failed attempt to emigrate to Palestine in 1940; post-war letters to Thea from her mother and sisters in Israel; two copies of "Diskretion..Ehrensache!", published by the Jakob Lange (Thea's father) publishing house. Also includes a copy of a memoir entitled "A Free World? No Concentration Camp, but Behind Prison Walls" by Josef Deutsch, a refugee who was also interned in Mauritius.
