Acquisition

Frank Morgens (Mieczyslaw Morgenstern) donated these photographs to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum on Jan. 3, 1997. They were found in his apartment in Łódź after the liberation, presumably left by a German soldier who was billeted in the apartment. Sylvia Karchmar completed the paperwork for her father, the late Frank Morgens.

Scope and Content

Consists of 34 photographs taken in the Łódź Ghetto, 1939-1943; includes photographs of Jews moving into the ghetto, of barbed wire fences separating roads, of various street signs regarding Jews, of Jews being inspected, and of the commercial district of the city before the establishment of the ghetto.
