Biographical History

Martin H. Stoll (1924-1988) was born in New York to Louis Stoll (born c. 1893, in Poland) and Helen Stoll (née Klein, born c. 1897-1981, in Poland) and had a brother, Henry (c. 1920-1990). Martin enlisted in the United States Army in 1943. He married Ruth Berkowitz (1925-?) in 1950 and had a daughter, Susan.

Acquisition

Susan Zedek donated the photographs to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in 1995.

Scope and Content

The collection consists of photographs taken by Martin Stoll in1945 of concentration camp liberations, including some identified as occurring at Buchenwald. Images show partially destroyed and gutted buildings, crematoriums, and Allied troops.
