Biographical History
Alfred Haas was born in Germany and studied law in Germany before being expelled in the 1930s. He restudied law in the United States and later became a partner in the firm Moses and Haas. Because he was German, Jewish, an American citizen, and recognized by law in two countries, he became a successful restitution lawyer after World War II.

Elaine Heumann Gurian, Alfred Hass’ niece, donated the materials to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in 1996.
Scope and Content
Contains three undated photographs of Alfred Haas' law class circa 1920s (Haas is not identified in any of the three photographs) and photocopies of fragments of the August 20, 1934 issue of "Mainzer Anzeiger." The newspaper contains articles about the NSDAP activities in Mainz, Germany.
