Biographical History
József Schiff (1893-1958) was born in Büdszentmihály, Hungary to Samuel and Rosa Schiff. He was a tailor and married dressmaker Jolán Langfelder (1904-1976), born in Kežmarok, Slovakia to Mór and Gizella Langfelder. Their daughter, Susan, was born in 1931 in Budapest. The family was forced to move into designated Jewish housing following the German invasion in 1944. József was sent to a labor camp for several months in the summer, and Jolán was deported in October. Susan and József obtained Swiss protection papers and lived in a crowded Budapest apartment with other family members before moving to the ghetto in December. They were liberated in January 1945, and Jolán returned that spring. Susan immigrated to the United States via Austria following the Hungarian Revolution in 1956 and married George Faludi (1931-2000) in 1961.
