Biographical History
David Gerst was born in Poland. During the Holocaust, Gerst lived in four ghettos (among them the Warsaw ghetto and Terezin and was imprisoned in a labor camp, and Buchenwald and Flossenbürg. After the war he immigrated to Israel.

Acquisition
David Gerst's memoir, "Memories of the years 1939-1945," was written in 1950. He sent a copy of it to Holocaust Publications in July 1985. When the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum acquired the assets of Holocaust Publications, the manuscript came to the attention of the USHRIA. In July 1993, a copy was acquired by tha department.
Scope and Content
Contains a bound memoir entitled "Memories of the years 1939-1945," with information about David Gerst's experiences during the Holocaust including is imprisonment in four ghettos, a labor camp and Buchenwald and Flossenbürg. Also contains information about his liberation in May 1945.
