Acquisition
Mr. Vlcko prepared the original typescript memoir entitled "A Rescuer of Tormented Jews" on 11 and 12 Apr. 1991. He also wrote the original letters he sent to the Anti-Defamation League of B'nai B'rith, dated 11 Apr. 1991, and to Harvey Sarner, a promoter for the "Righteous Among Nations," on 11 Apr. 1991. Mr. Vlcko photocopied the materials and sent them via Mr. Sarner who turned them or copies of the same over to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives in 1992. Mr. Vlcko, as the originator of the material, signed a donor agreement with the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Archives in Jan. 1993.
Scope and Content
Memoir relates to Mr. Vlčko's experiences in Slovakia during the Holocaust, including his interfaith marriage to a Jewish woman and his aid to her and to other Jews threatened with persecution. Inclules letters to Harvey Sarner and to the Anti-Defamation League of B'nai B'rith relate to the postwar Arab-Israeli conflict, and to antisemitism in general.
