United States Holocaust Memorial Museum

Acquisition

Helen Rappaport, the daughter of Salomon Schmidt, donated this material to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in 1995. Portions of the diary have been published in "Der Gaystiker Vidershtand fun Yidn in Getos un Lagern" by Menashe Unger. The original diary is housed at Yad Vashem.

Scope and Content

Consists of copies of an original diary written by Salomon Schmidt, who survived the war in hiding in Markuszowa, Poland. Mr. Schmidt was a member of the Judenrat in Frysztak, Poland. Includes English language translations of portions of the original diary, which is deposited at Yad Vashem.
