Biographical History

Harry Friedman (1893-1961) was born in Austrian Galicia (later Poland, now Ukraine) and immigrated to United States in 1907. He lived in Jersey City with his wife Fannie (1897-1971) and children Augusta, Emanuel, and Rosebel. His family members who remained in Horodenka are assumed to have been killed in the Holocaust.

Acquisition

Augusta F. Irvings donated the Harry Friedman correspondence to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in 1995. Augusta F. Irvings is Harry Friedman's daughter.

Scope and Content

The Harry Friedman correspondence consists of postcards and letters Harry Friedman received from family members including Perl, Simon, and Isaac Friedman in Horodenka, Poland before World War II and under the Soviet occupation in 1940.
