Acquisition

The collection was donated to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in 1999 by Sanford Gradinger.

Scope and Content

Collection of black and white negatives taken by David Gradinger, donor's uncle, while serving under U.S. Army overseas at the end of the war; circa 1942. Images include soldiers dressed in Nazi uniforms posing in groups, often in militaristic settings such as tank/truck convoys, graves of newly buried soldiers, etc. Some images dated 1942 and set in familiar cities or bear signage indicating location such as "Belfort" (France) or "Ostern Russlamd"
