Acquisition

United States Holocaust Memorial Museum Collection, Gift of Allen Dodge

Donated to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in 2015 by Allen Dodge. The materials were acquired by Dan Melcher and sent to Ben Melcher, who is the donor's father-in-law.

Scope and Content

Book and folder: records of the hospital laboratory in the Dachau concentration camp. Recorded in book and on separate pages contained within the folder are last names of victims interned in Dachau and records of their blood and urine work. The book, which dates November 30, 1942 - April 7, 1943 is labeled on cover "Häftl.-Revier Laboratorium" [prisoner laboratory area]. The folder bears pink label imprinted "SS Hauptsanitätslager Aeusserlich" and stamped "Häftl. -Revier Laboratorium" and contains loose pages, dated August 21, 1942 - December 4, 1942 recording the same information. Occasional dates inserted with cross indicating victim's death. Included in folder are additional documents including American Army document indicating book and folder were transferred May 5, 1945 from "G-5 to JA (War Crimes)" and subject is "Experiments on Prisoners of War at...Dachau." Additional date of May 11, 1945 adressed from Dan [Melcher] to Ben [Melcher] indicating he brought (or sent) these items to his family in the United States. Dan was stationed overseas with the US Army.
