Biographical History

Maurits Schaap was in hiding in Axel near Zeeuws-Vlaanderen.

Chaim (Herman) and Sarah Vleeschhouwer were sent to live in hiding at a children's home in Rotterdam run by the sisters Jacoba and Lambertine Holst. The sisters hid several Jewish children until they were betrayed in 1943. Lambertine and Jacoba were sent to the Vught concentration camp. All of the children were sent to Westerbork in November 1943. Herman and Sarah were killed in Auschwitz on February 11, 1944. Their parents, Gretha and Isaac Vleeschhouwer, survived the war and moved to Israel.
