The publication contains 5 lectures given during the war in academic courses in Essen during the fall semester 1914/15 by Rabbi Dr. Salomon Samuel on the topic of „Bibel und Heldentum“ (Bible and Heroism). The lecture give examples from the bible where heroism during war was depicted. The stories should serve as inspiration for soldiers and civilians alike in times of war. The tragic heroism of the prophets, God’s role in wars, and the idea of eternal peace among others are topics discussed.
