Scope and Content
The publication is the reprint of a sermon given by rabbi Dr. C. Seligman at the new synagogue in Berlin on the occasion of the reunion of the World Union of Liberal Judaism on August 18th, 1928. It discusses the need for introspection and accountability. It further emphasizes the command to speak about things God did not command – in contrast to "did command" – which is meant to explain that there is no generally valid prove of truth. This is reflected in the variety of opinions, viewpoints, and interpretations. It warns of false prophets. The only proof of truth is peace. True faith brings peace not the sword. The meaning of liberal Judaism, its ideas and purpose are elaborated on.
