Extent and Medium
1 electronic resource (38 pages)
Creator(s)
- Mannheimer, Moses
Scope and Content
The publication gives an overview of the long history of the Jewish community of the German city of Worms, most likely the oldest Jewish community in Germany. It is claimed that a gravestone unearthed in 1740 had the Hebrew date of 581 BC. However, the author gives arguments to doubt this claim. The second chapter discusses the synagogue of Worms, the oldest in Germany, its design, architecture and rich history. The special “rites” of the community of Worms, days of fasting and the cemetery are explained next.
