Scope and Content
The publication gives a historic overview of the creation of Judaism from origins in Canaan to influences through Babylon, Egypt, Assyria, Persia and later Greece. It differentiates between a territorial state idea (David, Salomon) and a religious state idea. The Deuteronomy is considered highly influential in shaping the character of Judaism. Especially the concept of “menucha” is looked at critically. The special and important role of the prophets is emphasized. They are considered “Unjewish”. The Old testament is a link between religions, between orient and occident, a paradigm of religious history.
