Scope and Content
A short story that recounts the persecution of Jews in Sevilla around the time of their expulsion from Spain in 1492. The recently married Jewish girl Judith together with her husband and others is led to the stake. An epilogue summarizes the contribution of the Jewish community in Spain and the consequences of their expulsion. Instead of increasing the wealth Columbus brought through his discoveries for Spain, Jewish merchants, artists, and crafts men fled to America and helped the young nation to prosper.
