Scope and Content
Fiction story about a train ride in Germany where the narrator confronts a simple arrogant traveler with clearly antisemitic views. After he gets off the train the narrator begins a discourse about the “Jewish Question” with his fellow travelers. The theories of Stöcker, Liebermann von Sonnenberg, Ahlwardt etc. are discussed and discounted. The second anecdote describes an encounter of the author with Stöcker. Forty years later the author is again in a train on his way to Danzig. There he becomes witness to a deeply antisemitic discussion about the present situation in Germany. The narrator joins the conversation with counter arguments. The group accepts his points and agree that they are people seeking the truth for whom the “Jewish Question” no longer exists.
