Scope and Content
The purpose of this antisemitic publication is to explain to the reader how the economy is run by so called “forces” in the background – Jews. The example given is the rise of the house of Rothschild during the Napoleonic Wars. The author describes how the economic situation during those years was similar to the one in 1926. Massive debts by governments, a heavy debt burden on individuals through heavy interests. The impoverishment of many countries on the one side compared to massive riches for others. The rise of the house of Rothschild is described from its humble beginnings in Frankfurt through massive profits by lending gold to the British government during its War with Napoleon in Spain. The next source of profit was the financing of the construction of railways. The text is full of antisemitic rhetoric and clichés. It further describes how in 1847 the Rothschild family acquired the only two mercury mines in Europe and created a monopoly that lasted until 1874 when the price fell by two-thirds because of the discovery of new mines in California. The next chapter deals with the Stock Exchange and shares. The speculation with shares is heavily criticized and considered criminal. The reasons for the heavy Jewish influence in the finance industry are elaborated on. Further literature on the topic is given at the end.
