Scope and Content
The file contains five letters regarding Schmitt:The first, addressed to State Secretary [Hans Heinrich] Lammers is marked with a "Secret – Personal!"-line on top and a handwritten note below that is not readable. The second and third are addressed to Reichsminister [Hans] Frank, the fourth and fifth (also containing some evidence) to Reichsminister [Berhard] Rust. Neither letter bears a signature or name of author. The first one asks for inspection of a memorandum by Schmitt from 1932, that contains serious attacks against National Socialism, in case it can be found in the archives. The second one was not posted (as a handwritten note mentions) and tells [Hans]Frank about the appreciation of his decision to dismiss Schmitt as leader of the Fachgruppe Hochschullehrer (professional group of academic teachers) and as leader of the academic department of the Rechtswahrerbund (National Socialist Association of Legal Professionals). This will also be highly appreciated by young academics, especially the students of law. Reasons, why Schmitt is rejected by them and the author of the letter are given. The third one starts with expressing appreciation of [Hans] Frank's decision to dismiss Schmitt from his posts. It mentions what a burden Schmitt was for the Nationalist University Lecturers and how foreign countries will now have to deal in another, more matter-of-fact way with National Socialist Jurisprudence and cannot just personally assault Schmitt any more. The National Socialist League of Lecturers is thankful for that measure taken. The fourth one mentions Schmitt's dismissal from his posts by [Hans] Frank, asks [Bernhard] Rust to consider also dismissing Schmitt from his posts related to the education of German academic youth and refers to documents attached. The fifth one by the Reichsstudentenführer (National Students' Leader) refers to Schmitt's dismissal and has five pages of evidence against Schmitt attached.
