Scope and Content
The first part of the file contains a letter from the office of Franconian District Leader, Julius Streicher's office to the head of the Main Security Office,[Reinhard] Heydrich from October 1st 1936 regarding Schmitt in Berlin. Streicher is expressing his thankfulness concerning the information about Schmitt and is declaring he will not take part in the conference of the "Reichsgruppe Hochschullehrer" on the 3rd and 4th of October. Schmitt is leader of the "Reichsgruppe Hochschullehrer" and invited Streicher by particular order of [Hans] Frank to the conference. Therefore, Streicher asks to inform also [Hans] Frank about the matter with Schmitt. The letter is signed with "Heil Hitler", the signature is not readable. The second part of the file contains an evaluation of Schmitt, author and date are unknown. For example, Schmitt is described as a catholic thinker, smart enough to realize, that the intellectual development is moving too fast for him. Because of that, he is taking various measures: a) He doesn't have to offer anything fundamentally new. That's why he is either keeping silent or limiting himself to writing well-formulated, but meaningless articles. Apart from that, he lets other peope (Wagner, Krauss, Neesse, Koch) work and write for him. b) He tries to get rid of people who turn against him: [Karl August] Eckhardt, Jäger in the committee of criminal law and Mäding. Because of Jäger he even went to see the Minister and accused him behind his back to sabotage the work of the committee, to delay the work and to hold antiquated opinions. Indeed Jäger was one of the most active persons. Thereupon he went to the Minister himself and asked for his dismissal from the committee. Schmitt had reached his goal. c) He does everything he can to stay popular with the Minister.
