Scope and Content
The file contains the four issues no.2 to no.5 of the URO News, the circular of the United Restitution Office (URO), ranging between December 1948 and March 1949. Issue no.2 from December 1948 mainly contains communiques regarding time limits for submitting claims for restitution in the Western Zones of Allied-occupied Germany. Issues no.3, no.4, and no.5 mostly deal with the US restitution laws in practice, questions of load balancing (“Lastenausgleich”), the possibilities of visits to Germany, and the monetary reforms in the Western Zones of Allied-occupied Germany. The URO News are mainly written in German, but might also contain parts in English.
