Scope and Content

The Ludwig Dische papers are a collection of letters, drafts, copies, newspaper clips and biographical material about famous Jews from Czernowitz, Bukovina. They also contain personal letters and material of Ludwig Dische who was from Czernowitz and later lived many years in Romania before he emigrated to Vienna. The file includes a copy of the newspaper "Die Stimme" from July 1971, It was a German paper published in Tel-Aviv for the Bukovina ex-pat community. It existed for 73 years and ceased to exist in 2017. Further articles are from the Neue Zürcher Zeitung, "Deutsches Exil 1933 bis 1945" from January 25th, 1973, the paper die Gemeinde "Welttreffen der Juden aus der Bukowina in Vorbereitung" from March 8th, 1973, as well as "Die Endlösung der Judenfrage in Mitteleuropa und ihre Vorgeschichte" from January 3rd, 1973. A statistic about the number of Jews living in the World in 1974 is taken from the Illustrierte Neue Welt from February 1974. "The Initial Triumph of the Axis" from the Survey of International Affairs 1939 - 1946 (published by Oxford University Press, 1958 ; edited by Arnold Toynbee and Veronica M. Toynbee) is also partly copied and included in the file. Finally there is the copy of a law reprinted concerning the construction and maintenance of elementary schools in the Bukovina; date unknown.
