Scope and Content
The file contains the verdict of Vinzenz Divin (born on 14 January 1914 in Mittel-Betschwa) and Friedrich Kubis (born 16 April 1919 in Ober-Betschwa). The perpetrators are brothers-in-law. They have not been convicted of any previous crimes. Starting autumn 1944 armed bands led by Bolsheviki were formed in the German-Slovak border areas. In October 1944 eleven members of the gang showed up at the house of Vinzenz Divin. At their request, the perpetrator fed them and gave them directions. One week later, the gang returned to Divin's house to ask for food. By coincidence, his brother-in-law Friedrich Kubis showed up and offered them to eat at his place. After their arrest the two stated that they acted under coercion. Being accused of supporting gang members in the West-Beskids and illegally possessing weapons, they were sentenced to death.
