Scope and Content

The file contains typewritten correspondence between the Wiener library and the International Transport Workers' Federation. It addresses the fate and whereabouts of trade union leaders in Germany during the years of 1933 to 1938. Many of them where mistreated and killed by the SA. In a letter by Walter Auerbach he urges caution to publish names from a list of unionists still imprisoned in Germany for fear of their safety. An article from "Faschismus" No. 12, 1937 discusses the circumstances of the death of Valentin Schmetzer, a former district manager of the International Trade Workers' Federation.
