The file contains a report on famous German and Austrian artists, musicians and scientists who were forced to emigrate. The documents detail the National-Socialist policy regarding the expulsion of German artists either because of their political convictions or of their racial descent. They give information about some prominent musicians, like Artur Schnabel (pianist), Adolf Busch (violonist), Alexander Kipnis and Richard Tauber (singers) and Otto Klemperer, Fritz Busch and Bruno Walter (conductors). They also give biographical details of famous German personalities like Max Reinhardt, producer and theatrical manager ; Walter Gropius, famous architect and founder of the "Bauhaus" ; Sigmund Freud, founder of psycho-analysis ; Dr. Heinrich Bruening, previous Chancellor of the German Reich ; Thomas Mann, German novelist and holder of the Nobel Prize ; Dr. James Franck, Nobel Prize winner in experimental and theoretical physics and Fritz Haber, German chemist, holder of the Nobel Prize. The file also contains a list of some prominent exiled scientists now engaged in essential work in Britain.
