Scope and Content

The files contain information on the deterioration of labour conditions for juveniles and children in Nazi Germany. In April 1938, the German Cabinet passed the Juveniles (Protection) Act regarding children labour and working hours for juveniles, when the Act distinguishes between children and juveniles. It consolidates regulations which have been in force before and increases the protected age from 16 to 18. Since the outbreak of war, a new decree (the Decree for the Amendment of Regulations relating to the Law of Labour) abolished all those ameliorations. The documents give in details its different clauses. They also show that juveniles have been employed on agriculture work contrary to the legal restrictions in force.
