"Guns or butter"
Extent and Medium
2 online resources (1, 8 pages)
Scope and Content
In the files, Nazi leaders compare the need for butter and the need for weapons. According to Joseph Goebbels, having no butter is not the end of the world, but having guns allows Germany to keep its peace. Hermann Goering discussed whether buying ore or buying butter was more important: Either we buy butter and we abandon freedom or we seek freedom and we abstain from butter. We decided to buy ore.
