  • George Bell, the Bishop of Chichester, was an Anglican theologian, Dean of Canterbury, Bishop of Chichester, member of the House of Lords and a pioneer of the Ecumenical Movement. During World War II he repeatedly condemned the Allied practice of area bombing of civil population in Germany, he supported the German Resistance and urged the Allies to distinguish between the Nazis and the general German nation.
