Heinrich Brüning was the last German Chancellor of the Weimar Republic (1919-1933) who tried to govern democratically and to prevent the seizure of power by the Nazis. He became Chancellor in 1930 and was dismissed in 1932, as result of intrigues in the army and of the pressure of the Nazi party (--from dossier)
