The author, an eye witness, narrates events in fictional form happening in Kibbutz Kiryat Anavim, where he lived, during the War of Independence, 1948. He mentions the heavy losses of civilians and soldiers alike, evacuations of kibbutz members to Jerusalem, the construction of the Burma road, shelling and ambushes from the Arab communities nearby, but also the cordial relations with their Arab neighbors who also feel like pawns of geopolitical considerations.
