Scope and Content
The file contains two documents: the penal code and the camp regulations of the concentration camp Esterwegen in Germany from August 1934. The first document is a typewritten version of seven pages of the camp’s penal code as issued on August 1, 1934, by Theodor Eicke, the SS group leader who was responsible for the camp’s organization. The penal code contains 19 paragraphs specifying the various punishments reaching from strict confinement to death penalty. The second document is a typewritten version of 10 pages of the camp’s regulations as issued on August 1, 1934, by Theodor Eicke. The regulations define the camp’s internal structure and organization as well as the prisoners’ duties towards the camp’s SS officials.
