Scope and Content
The file contains a typewritten list of 8 pages documenting Ghettos and Nazi camps which were mostly located in the East European territories occupied by Germany during World War II. The abbreviation "ZAL" refers to the term of "Zentrales Arbeitslager" or "central labor camp". The list is dated July 11, 1950, and was issued by the “Vertreter des Landesinteresses in Bayern”, a position within the administrative process of restitution directly subjected to the Finance ministry’s directives. The list is a second and temporary version of a former list established one month before, in June 1950. The list includes a list of abbreviations of places and organizations. Furthermore, the list includes a table which shows the name of the various camps, their purpose, their operating period, and the source of information. The table lists 182 camps, mostly in East European territories which had been occupied by Germany before, but also in some former eastern territories of Germany.
