Scope and Content
The file contains nine typewritten pages of a NSDAP court judgement delivered on January 20, 1939, regarding the murder of three Jewish people during the November Pogroms, the so-called Night of Broken Glass (“Kristallnacht”) on November 9-10 1938 in Germany. August Frühling and Bruno Mahlstedt, both members of the SA, had murdered Martha and Adolph Goldberg and Leopold Sinasohn at their homes during the Pogrom events near the city of Bremen. Both SA men claimed to have acted according to the orders they had received from their superiors, among them Fritz Köster, the mayor of Lesum, who himself claimed to have misunderstood the orders he had received. While Köster was unable to carry out the killing of another Jewish family, Frühling and Mahlstedt had murdered the Goldberg family and Leopold Sinasohn. The case was closed by the court.
