Scope and Content

The file contains three publications on Racism and the activities of the Ku Klux Klan in the United States published the Southern Poverty Law Center and the National Anti-Klan Network in 1981 and 1982. The first document is one issue of the “Poverty Law Report Klanwatch intelligence” published in January 1982 by the Southern Poverty Law Center as the first issue that combines both formats of the “Poverty Law Report” and the “Klanwatch Intelligence Report”. The issue is mainly dedicated to the exoneration of Johnny Ross, sentenced to death for a rape he didn’t commit. Furthermore, the issue includes information on recent Ku-Klux-Klan and Nazi incidents in the United States. The other two documents are both newsletters published by the National Anti-Klan-Network of the United States in 1981 and 1982. The two issues mainly deal with the threat of Klan indoctrination of children and young adults, the claims for justice of Klan victims, and educational programs against racism.
