Scope and Content
The file contains documents assembled by the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the situation of Jewish people in Poland between 1927 and 1934. Most of the documents deal with the role of Jewish businesses in Poland and the international economic boycott movement against Nazi Germany in 1934. Thus, the file contains a secret report on the possible negative economic effects of the planned ban of East-European Jewish organizations in Germany. Some of the documents (newspaper article, diplomatic reports) relate to the economic situation of Polish Jews before 1933, mainly against the background of rising Antisemitism and Anti-Jewish protests in Poland in 1931. Furthermore, the file contains documents on the Revisionist Zionist movement and its leading figure Vladimir/Ze'ev Jabotinsky (referred to as “Wolf Szabotynski”), among them a report on Jabotinsky’s Zionist activities during a visit to Poland in 1927, as well as a report on the first congress of Jabotinsky’s “New Zionist Organization” held in Vienna in 1935.
