The file contains the copy of a booklet entitled “Why Race Riots? Lessons from Detroit” written by Earl Brown for the series of “Public Affairs Pamphlets”, and published as no. 87 of the series in 1944. The author was of African American background, and in his role as an editorial staff member of the Life magazine, he investigated the riots that erupted in Detroit in 1943 in order to avoid similar events in other cities. He analyzed the economic and social situation of the city and the events of the outbreak of the riots before drawing conclusions for the case of Detroit as well as for other cities facing similar problems. He also provided a bibliography for further reading.
