[Newspaper publications in Hamburg]
Extent and Medium
1 online resource (47 pages)
Scope and Content
The file contains several newspaper cuttings from Hamburg from the beginning of the 20th century. Some newspaper cuttings are from the Hamburgischer Correspondent, which was the oldest political newspaper in the city of Hamburg in Germany. It was highly respected and often cited in newspapers of neighboring countries. The newspaper was published for more than 200 years, but closed down during the Nazi years. Topics of the Hamburgischer Correspondent are for example the new elections of a community leader for the Deutsch-Israelitischer Gemeindebund (German-Israelite community) in 1910. Mr Aby S. Warburg was elected a member of the local council for the deceased Mr. Moritz Warburg. Also other newspapers reported about the election, like the Berliner Tageblatt and the Hamburgische Böersenhandel. The Hamburgischer Correspondent also discussed topics related to the city of Hamburg, such as the extension of the platform stairs at Landwehr station. Newspaper cuttings seen from Jewish newspapers like the Jüdische Nachrichten, report for example about the Judentag (Jewish day) in Hamburg in 1913, where the fifth general assembly of German Jews met with the participation of 400 delegates and numerous guests from all over Germany. The newspaper also informs about the Technikum (Technion) in Haifa, Israel. Furthermore handwritten letters, notes and speeches, information about the candidates, who could have been elected for the Deutsch-Israelitischer Gemeindebund, as well as a list of voters are attached.
