Scope and Content
The file contains parts of the memoirs by Heinrich Sliosberg, who was a Belarussian-Russian lawyer. Sliosberg followed right-wing views and turned to the Constitutional Democratic Party ( Cadets ). He was arrested soon after the October Revolution, and after a brief imprisonment he emigrated to Finland and then on to France. In Paris, he led the community of Russian Jews. In 1933 he founded, with others, the Society of the 'Friends of the Dawn', a weekly newspaper of the Federation of Russian-Ukrainian Zionists in emigration. In this part of his memoirs he writes about the emanzipation of Jews in Europe, Russsia and other countries. Further he writes about the general treatment of Jews in the 19th century, the persecution in several countries, the fear of the Jewish community in other countries and the role of Jewish communities, relief organisations and newspapers during that time. In addition he writes about the Freemasons, a new choosen enemy of the catholic church. The Freemasons became the target of accusations, aspersion and propaganda. In this context he also made it clear that there was no connection between the Jews and the Freemasons. This is also proven by the methods the catholic church was using against them, against the Jews they were fighting on religios subjects and with the Freemasons on pilitical ones. When the first Jews joint the Freemasons because of political resons, the church started its propaganda against both of them in the same way, suddenly all the Freemasons were allergedly Jewish. As the author argues, this is how the agitation raised and the 'Protocosl of the elders of Zion' were created.
