Scope and Content

The file contains copies of the magazin "The Listener" of Decemouin26, 1946. "The Listener" was a weekly magazine established by the BBC in January 1929. In this edition several authors like Paul Anderson, Herbert Davis and others wrote articles about the 'impressionas of Berlin' including pictures and informations how the life will continue after the war. Furthermore he reports of the 'self-aid on the lower Rhine', where housing remeined a key problem in Germany's recovery. Pictures and stories substantiate the effort German men were doing to rebuild their houses. They did everything, from cleaning the site to final construction. Lady Violet Bonham Carter wrote an article entitled 'I knew Edward Grey' where she explains how he played an important role in her live. In addition she explains how he was like as a most essentially English of all Englishmen. Also letters to the edititor can be seen, as the editor welcomed letters on broadcasting subjects or topics arising out of articles or talkes printed in "the Listener". Also some pages of "The Spectator" From 1953 are attached.
