Scope and Content

The file contains notes, letters and copies of documents concerning Jewish property and wealth in Germany, in the years of 1928-1951. Jewish property was divided by the Nazis into hand cash, real estate and rough material. The documents show different calculation regarding Jewish property. The Nazis calculated the actual value of everything Jews could still own during that times. At the beginning of 1933 most of the calculations were based on the property tax of 1928, besides emigration to Palestine and executions were included in the calculation. Furthermore the wealth of retired Jewish people was also calculated, or at least estimated. Also letters of the Geheime Staatspolizei in 1937 (Secret State Police) concerning the impoundment of Jewish property can be read. The documents show that it was getting harder for the Nazis to calculate or estimate the actual property of Jews in Germany. The numbers and statistics were not accurate and as there were execution and resolution on expropriations the numbers changed constantly. Furthermore newspaper articels concerning the 'Reichsvertretung der Juden in Deutschland', published in 'Jüdisches Nachrichtenblatt', can be seen. The Organization tried to help and organize as much as possible for the Jewish community. It tried to provided administrative know-how for Jewish Germans to organize self-help and to save them as well as their property.
