Scope and Content
The file contains material from the member society of the Reichsverband der Jüdischen Kulturbunde (Cultural Federation of German Jews) in the Ost-Westfalen ( East- Westphalia) area, mostly in Herford. The Reichsverband der Jüdischen Kulturbunde hired over 1300 men and 700 women artists, musicians, and actors fired from German institutions, and grew to about 70,000 members all over the third Reich. Most of the material in this file are examples of programs of activities, like lectures, concerts or theater plays. The correspondence between the supervisor Hans Hinkel (responsible as a special commissioner for "cultural particulars" at the Reich Ministry for the People's Enlightenment and Propaganda) and the Kulturbund in the Ost-Westfalen area is attached. The chairman of the Cultural Federation of German Jews in Berlin, Kurt Singer, is also involved in the conversations. The correspondence is concerning applications to approve activities by Hans Hinkel, and furthermore difficulties to maintain the activities in some parts of the Ost-Westfalen area.
