Scope and Content
The file contains material from the member society of the Reichsverband der Jüdischen Kulturbunde (Cultural Federation of German Jews) in the Rhein-Ruhr area, mostly in Cologne. The Reichsverband der Jüdischen Kulturbunde hired over 1300 men and 700 women artists, musicians, and actors fired from German institutions, and grew to about 70,000 members all over the third Reich. Most of the material are examples of programs of activities and correspondences, especially adressed to the supervisor Hans Hinkel (responsible as a special commissioner for "cultural particulars" at the Reich Ministry for the People's Enlightenment and Propaganda) and to Kurt Singer (chairman of the Cultural Federation of German Jews in Berlin). The material shows furthermore 19 newsletters, from February 1937 till November 1938, of the Jüdischer Kulturbund of the Rhein- Ruhr area. Informations about theater plays, artists and musicians, gatherings, cultural evenings and advertisments adressed to the Jewish community can be read. Each newsletter contains around 12 to 16 pages.
