Scope and Content
The file contains a correspondence between severel statesmen, officers and minister of the Third Reich. The correspondence is regarding the situation and treatment of Jews in Slovakia in the years of 1943 and 1944. Before 1943 the situation of Jews in Slovakia was better than elsewhere. Reports about the situation of Jews in Slovakian camps are attached. Detailed numbers and explanations can be seen. But after 1943, also because of the pro-Nazi regime of President Jozef Tiso, who agreed to deport its Jews as part of the Nazi Final Solution, the situation got worse. This sympathy can be read in the reports and letters of the correspondence. Orders were given to arrest all Jews in Slovakia. But President Jozef Tiso also had to deal with the resistance of the Swiss ambassy, the red croos and of the church. Nevertheless President Tiso worked together with the Nazis and tried to nip the resistance the bud.
