Scope and Content

The file contains an episode of the newspaper 'The ghetto speaks', issued by the 'American representation of the general Jewish workers' union of Poland' in 1942. The episode with the title "The first authentic report received from Poland about gas-executions of Jews" reports about the treatment and gas-execution of Jews by the Nazis. Three grave-diggers succeeded in escaping, and it is from them that the present cronicle written in this episode were published. The Nazis exterminate all Jews from villages and cities around Poland. Rumors have been spread by the Nazis that Jews were transported to the ghetto in Lodz and that they would be employed in factories, at trades and in commerce, women would be given jobs in housekeeping and children sent to school. In fact Jews were transported to a castle in Chelmno and from there driven away in an execution truck, with a gas mechnism. In the woods the burial itself was beasty brutal, the head of one victim would be laid at the feet of another, and the spare room which remained, children were placed. One such sector totalled 200 victims.
