The file deals with the so called "Kraft durch Freude" propaganda program of the German Nationalsocialist party. The program was designed to make new partymembers and those who were considering partymembership socially and ideologically more comfortable through means of material seduction. "Kraft durch Freude" members were frequently taken on cruiseship journeys all around the Baltic sea, to North America and Argentina as well as participated in cultural and folkloristic festivals, happenings and activities designed to propagate the supremacy of national socialist political ideology. "Kraft durch Freude" literally means "strength through joy" and thereby adequately sums up the political intent behind this "feel-good " program of the NSDAP. The file specifically contains materials concerning the "Kraft durch Freude" festival in Hamburg in 1937 with folklore groups and a large list of foreign reporters and journalists attending.
